XP Series Disc Pump

The Disc Pump is a revolutionary, ultrasonic, pneumatic piezoelectric micropump that generates pressure or vacuum in a small, silent, vibration-free form factor and delivers highly accurate, ultra-smooth flow control. The XP Series offers the most power-efficient design and the widest operating temperature range of the disc pump family, and it can be mounted as a Smart Pump Module that includes integrated drive electronics and pressure sensing, acting as a pump and pressure regulator solution all-in-one. These pumps are ideal for applications in medical devices, life sciences, and environmental monitoring, including microfluidics, pipetting, wearable devices, and portable sensing technologies.

General Specification
Characteristic Specification
Free Flow Rate .65 to 2 L/min
Pressure Range -300 mbar to 400 mbar
Silent1 <10 dB
Operating Temperature -13°F to 131°F (-25°C to 55°C)
Control Precision2 Less Than 0.1%
Response Time Ultra-fast Millisecond Response
Turn-down Ratio3 Infinite
Recommended Filtration4 Less Than 3 μm
Compact Size 29 mm Diameter
Lightweight 5 g
Humidity Range5 0 to 95% RH
Pumping Medium6 Air. Liquids can be controlled indirectly
1Per ISO 226:2003 and related studies; 30 cm equivalent measurement distance.
2Pressure and flow: requires pump under closed-loop control with suitable sensor and drive electronics.
3The disc pump's piezoelectric drive actuator has no stall speed. The pump can be controlled continuously between 0 and 100% maximum output.
4The use of an inlet filter with a pore size of 3 μm or less is strongly recommended to prevent the ingress of particulates that might otherwise limit the lifetime of the pump.
5Non-condensing; ingress of liquid-phase water will halt pump operation.
6Liquid may be pumped indirectly in a pressure-driven flow or air displacement regime.

Electrical Operation
  • Typical driver requires 3.5 to 5 VDC power supply
  • Pump requires AC drive waveform of 20 to 22 kHz
  • Pump drive voltage must not exceed 48 Vrms (where for a typical square-wave drive Vrms ≈ Vpk)
  • Power: 0 to 1 W (continuous)
  • Pump efficiency is application dependent
  • Drive PCB and evaluation electronics are available See Getting Started tab and Resources tab
  • Reference circuits and firmware are available to support product integration. See Getting Started tab and Resources tab

PIEZOELECTRIC DISC PUMP DEVELOPMENT KIT

Our Disc Pump Development Kit enables the rapid evaluation of one or multiple pumps, together with solenoid valves, making it easy to test system-level prototypes and evaluate the unique features of the piezoelectric disc pump technology.

What's In The Development Kit?

Watch this video of our Business Development Manager, John Watson, as he unboxes a Disc Pump Development Kit and explains everything that comes with it:

  • Development Kit Motherboard (UEKA0300100A)
  • General Purpose Drive PCB (UEKA0300000A) mounted on the motherboard, with protective cap
  • Pneumatic accessories kit (tubing, filters and connectors)
  • Precision 30k Lohm RIGX0029515S orifice (to bleed pressure from systems)
  • Cable kit for connecting Smart Pump Modules and valves to the kit
  • USB cable for connecting the kit to a PC
  • Pump mounting kit (one set of bolts and O-rings)
  • Quick Start Guide

Note that Disc Pumps and valves must be purchased separately. This enables customers to select the exact model(s) that they wish to test. For help selecting the right model for your application, please speak to a Lee Sales Engineer.

1Intermittent operation at 1.4 W drive power (into the pump). With intermittent operation, the mean power should be less than 1 W with a duty cycle period of less than 20 s. Operational life may be shortened when the mean pump drive power exceeds 1 W.
2Continuous operation at 1 W drive power (into the pump).
3Performance data presented was collected under normal temperature and pressure and ambient humidity conditions. Performance under other conditions may vary. In particular, note that performance decreases with altitude and may decrease at elevated temperature.
