Last Chance Contamination Control for Scientific Instruments

Contamination is a common problem in fluid control applications. Safety screens are used to prevent contamination from reaching critical downstream components, which could cause a sudden failure. This contamination can be introduced anywhere, from assembly to maintenance. Therefore, safety screens are literally the last (and possibly first) line of defense against rogue contamination.

Safety screens from The Lee Company are designed to be effective, economical, and easy to install. They are constructed of stainless steel woven wire mesh, bonded together using a proprietary process that offers superior integrity and life. These screens are engineered to prevent a rupture and instead allow a gradual reduction in flow performance.

Safety screens are available in insert, cartridge, and press-in styles. Insert style screens feature an integral locking end that provides retention, cartridge-style screens are designed to be retained by the customer, and press-in style screens contain our unique barbed design which provides retention in plastic housings and fittings.

Insert Style Safety Screens

Insert style safety screens feature an integral locking end that uses our field-proven insert principle of controlled expansion during installation to lock and retain the screen in place. A pre-installed expander pin is simply pressed into the screen body, expanding the locking grooves into the wall of the installation hole to retain the component. The stainless steel construction of our screens offers superior integrity and life. Standard models are available in a wide range of diameters from 5 mm to 12 mm and in a range of standard micron ratings from 40 to 170 microns.

Cartridge Style Safety Screens

Cartridge style safety screens are designed to slip into a drilled flat-bottom hole and be retained by a secondary means. The Lee Company offers a separate retainer for the 5.5 mm and 8.0 mm sizes. These screens are constructed of all stainless steel and use our proprietary, high-strength bonded mesh that provides superior strength and integrity. Standard configurations are available in sizes from 5.5 mm to 16 mm in diameter and in various micron ratings from 40 to 170 microns.

Press-In Style Safety Screens

Press-in style safety screens are specifically designed for easy installation into plastic housings and fittings and use our unique barbed design that provides easy press-in installation while ensuring retention. These components are completely comprised of 300 series stainless steel, providing compatibility with a range of fluids and gases, and utilize the same proprietary, high-strength bonded mesh as used in the insert and press-in style versions. They are available in 2.5 mm, 5.5 mm, and 8.0 mm diameters and in a range of standard micron ratings for improved design flexibility. The 2.5 mm version fits into many common industrial and medical plastic fittings.
